What do you need to know to start using animovement? Learn what you need in 5 articles.

animovement is a family of R packages for movement data analysis. Each package owns one stage of the analysis, and they all share one data structure, the aniframe, so the output of one stage is the input to the next with nothing to convert in between.

These five guides take you through those stages with one recording, from installing the packages to speed, direction and distance travelled. Work through them in order, since each builds on the last. Once you have the basics, Learn is where to go further.

NoteNew to R or the tidyverse?

To get the most out of animovement, we recommend learning the basics of R and the tidyverse first. The Posit primers, R for Data Science and ModernDive are all good places to begin. animovement is tidyverse-friendly: aniframes are tibbles, so dplyr, tidyr and ggplot2 work on them as they do on any other data.
